Planting Bulbs

Children in Gruffalo Class today planted dwarf daffodil and crocus bulbs on the perimeter of the school building. For our Big Write this week the children will be writing a set of instructions explaining how to plant bulbs ready for spring time.

In preparation for this week's Big Write we hope that you'll help your child by asking them to explain the process of planting bulbs (Big Talk).

Get them to: 

• Think of an interesting title for their instructions.

• Explain the equipment needed.

• Tell you how to do it!! (Don't worry if this sounds like they're bossing you about! We've told them that they need to use bossy verbs).

• Use time openers to explain the order (first, next, then, after, finally or lastly).

• Think of a warning - something that you need to do or must not do.

Children in Need 2012

Although not in school dress, the children in Burnaby Building were certainly not feeling blue on Friday as the school supported Children In Need.

Thanks to your kind donations we raised £83.84 to give to Pudsey Bear.

Fire Officer Pete ignites Y2 passion for safety!

What an exciting and informative afternoon in Gruffalo Class yesterday. We learnt how to keep our family and ourselves safe if our house is on fire.

Pete from the Fire and Rescue Service came into school to talk to us about keeping safe around fire. The children learnt a lot and now know how to extinguish themselves from fire!!!

I have another piece of writing done at home by a child in Gruffalo Class, describing his favourite celebration of the year.

Also, JV has set the challenge of finding all 11 eggs hidden in the picture. What a good idea!!

I think I've found them all now - I nearly missed the one behind the Easter Bunny's ear!!

 

Building Rockets

Using our own instructions to build rockets.

The Y2s in Gruffalo Class have been teaching children how to make a rocket. Everybody enjoyed it!!

Some children wanted to launch the rockets into space too.

Writing such good instructions in our Big Write on Thursday definitely helped. Well done everyone!! 

Investigating the properties of 3D shapes.

The children really enjoyed this activity today.  They are so clever. JL made a triangular prism, recognising the relationships between length of the adjacent edges.
