Incubators for Dinosaur Eggs

Helping our new friend - Dilly Dinosaur

At long last we met the dinosaur who came crashing through our classroom, and we were surprised to find out, she needs our help. It turns out that the egg we found when we were dinosaur hunters (but we're not going to eat them!) was taken from Dilly when she was out searching for nesting materials.

Dilly told us that she was expecting to lay more eggs and needed our help to look after them whilst she searched for a way to return home.

We agreed to help! These pictures show us making our dinosaur egg incubators. It's a good job we know so much about electrical circuits!!

Soon we'll write out the instructions for you in case you should ever need to make a dinosaur egg incubator.

Dinosaur Hunters

Dinosaur Hunters but we're not going to eat it!

Earlier today the Gruffalos received a message from Mrs Sian with some alarming news. Here it is:

Firstly, the children accepted the commission to attempt to find the dinosaur and decided on a name for their team...

Next, the children thought we should look at a map to 'find all the places we need to look'.
Then we set out to find the dinosaur, recording any clues we found on the way. These are some of the things the children saw:

stock-piled grass for food
discarded food

What could have bitten through this wire?

3 pronged dinosaur prints!

Dinosaur footprints - could this be a print from a baby dinosaur?

Finally, on our dinosaur hunt, we found the dinosaur's nest, but we also found something else!

Eventually we went back to the Dinosaur Hunt headquarters to assess all that we had found. So is the dinosaur dangerous? Does it need our help?

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service 'enlighten' the Gruffalos

Fire and Rescue Service 'Enlighten' the Gruffalos

Well, how exciting! This term the Gruffalos have learnt how to take care around fire. They have learnt how to reduce the risks of fire and what to do if their clothes caught on fire. Can you remember Gruffalos?

Stop

Drop

and Roll

Thanks, SY Fire and Rescue Service for a really interesting afternoon. You really 'ignited' a passion in us for fire safety!

A dinosaur on the loose!

A Dinosaur on the Loose!

This week in KS1 a dinosaur has been heard on the school grounds. This term, teachers right across school will be delivering the creative curriculum using a teaching technique called Mantle of the Expert. On Tuesday the Gruffalos agreed that a dinosaur had crashed through the classroom and that for some reason it was in a hurry.

Today, PC Sutherland from South Yorkshire Police commissioned the children to provide him with a reconstruction of the scene immediately after the dinosaur had entered the classroom.

The children decided on 4 main happenings:

1. The dinosaur smashed through the wall and left a hole in the whiteboard.
2. The force of this left debris around the hole in the wall.
3. Footprints were visible, formed by the dusty debris.
4. droplets of blood were visible scattered around the scene.

The children then assigned responsibilities to produce a reconstruction of the incident and provide a picture that captured the aftermath of this exciting event.

PC Sutherland is now awaiting an email which provides an explanation of the event and the children's knowledge of what took place. The children have until 3.00pm on Friday to respond.

Here are some images of our mantle work this week, so far...

 Brilliant fun!!

Science Afternoon for The Gruffalos

Stardust

Last week, for the Gruffalo Class Wide Reward, Sarah Tindall came to meet the Gruffalos and told us all about Space and the Universe. The children learnt lots about stardust and had a fab afternoon. Thanks Sarah for an insightful and interesting afternoon.
